“U.S. has started opening its door for the import of Vietnam fresh coconut”

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced. The APHIS finished updating the online database of agricultural goods import requirements to approve the import of fresh coconuts from Vietnam.

The move resulted from the close cooperation between the APHIS and the Vietnamese Plant Protection Department in analyzing a risk of plant pests to Vietnam Fresh Coconuts imported from Vietnam into the U.S.

Vietnam Fresh Coconuts, meeting the phytosanitary standards established by the U.S., are deemed eligible for export to the U.S. market when their husks are either entirely removed or 75% of their coir is extracted

2. US approved the import of Vietnam fresh coconuts.

The Vietnam Fresh Coconut cultivation area in Vietnam spans more than 188 thousand hectares, accounting for 1.67% of the global coconut cultivation area and 2.07% of Asia’s coconut cultivation area.

3. Vietnam coconuts production top 6 rank

In 2022, Vietnam earned US $900 million from coconut exports, and its coconut cultivation area ranked 5th in total value in the global coconut market. This highlights Vietnam’s significant contribution to the international coconut industry.

As China is about to open the market for Vietnamese coconuts and allow official coconut import. Local enterprises are making efforts to cultivate raw material regions, request growing area codes, and register for the establishment of organic material zones to fulfill the demands of the global market.

Presently, there are approximately 854 companies engaged in the manufacturing and processing of various coconut products, encompassing activities such as processing coconut shells, copra, and coconut juice. These enterprises collectively provide employment for over 15,000 individuals.

At present, over 90 companies are involved in the export of coconut products, with 42 of them specializing in the exportation of extensively processed goods.
