VIETNAM ANTICIPATES THAT ITS COCONUT EXPORTS WILL ARCHIVE A VALUE OF 1 BILLION USD BY 2025

Vietnam’s coconut exports are projected to reach 1 billion USD in 2025 following agreements with the US and China to permit the entry of Vietnamese coconuts into these markets.

At the end of 2022, coconut export turnover was over 700 million USD. But based on the momentum of the US and China agreeing to import Vietnamese coconuts, around the end of 2024 and early 2025, coconut exports turnover will be up to 1 billion USD

2. Ben Tre – Vietnam’s export coconut capital

Ben Tre is known as Vietnam’s coconut capital, the coconut cultivation area in the province exceeds 15,000 hectares. Boasting a coconut cultivation area that represents approximately 40% of the country’s total and 46% of the total coconut cultivation in the Mekong Delta region.

Ben Tre is home to 5 enterprises engaged in exporting fresh coconuts to various markets, including Japan, Singapore, Taiwan (China), Australia, and Canada. Additionally, approximately 20 companies have completed registrations to obtain packaging facility codes and planting area codes, allowing them to exports coconuts to the Chinese market.

Approximately 20 prominent enterprises in Vietnam have engaged in coconut exports globally. Vietnam has established trade relationships with importers in 35 countries and territories.

3. In 2024, there are expectations that Vietnam’s fresh coconuts will be exported to China.

In anticipation of the impending opening of the US market for Vietnamese coconuts and China’s approval for official coconut imports, local businesses are actively working on developing raw material areas. They are in the process of applying for growing area codes and registering to establish organic material zones to align with the demands of the global market, according to the official.

Furthermore, the General Administration of Customs of China is currently examining cultivation areas as part of the process to endorse a protocol authorizing the official import of Vietnamese fresh coconuts into the market of over 1 billion people. He expressed optimism, anticipating that Vietnam’s fresh coconuts will be exported to China in the near future.

As the US is about to open the market, exporting Vietnamese coconuts and China allows official coconut import, Vietnamese local businesses are trying to develop raw material areas, apply for growing areas codes, and register to build organic material zones to meet the needs of the world market.
